On IRC You usually see something like this when a person enters or leaves or you do a /whois on them:

*** ········································
*** Kender is ~Kender@1dad8cc8.137f4c4b.cable.wanadoo.nl

*** Kender is using a registered nickname

This is one with a vhost:

*** imbri on cristal.ca.us.leaf.chat-solutions.org
*** imbri is using a registered nickname
